Paris Hilton Just Me

Paris Hilton: News Headlines

Paris Hilton, the 26-year-old heiress of the Hilton hotel empire, who is also a singer, model, and actress, started serving her three-week prison term on Monday for violating the sentence imposed after she was caught driving while intoxicated. Dozens of flash bulbs burst into white light as Paris Hilton arrived in the women’s prison in Lynnwood, southern Los Angeles. She walked into the building without uttering a word. Hilton turned up at the MTV Movie Awards ceremony on Sunday, telling the reporters that she was “very afraid yet ready to take her punishment.”

Hilton will have to swap her designer threads for an orange jumpsuit when in a penitentiary. According to Reuters, she will share her 3.5 m by 2.5 m cell with another cell mate. The cell is equipped with two-storey bunks and a lidless toilet bowl. Hilton will stay within the confines of her cell all the time save for one hour, which is allotted for taking a shower, watching TV in a recreation room and make a phone call using the facility’s land line. The inmates are not allowed to keep their cell phones while incarcerated.

“I’m trying to be strong. I’m ready to turn myself into prison though it’s pretty hard for me. I really appreciate support from my family, my friends and my numerous fans,” said Hilton, speaking to reporters several minutes before the MTV Movie Awards kicked off.

Hilton was sentenced to a prison term for violating the sentence imposed when she was caught DWI. On September 7, 2006, the police pulled over Hilton’s car for speeding. As it turned out, the celebrity party girl tested positive when she took a Breathalyzer test. She was sentenced to 3 years in prison and a $1,500 fine. Hilton got into trouble again in January 2007 when the police pulled her car over and found out she was driving on a suspended license. Finally, Hilton was detained by the police in February this year for driving with headlights switched off in the dark.

The court hearings took place in early May. Hilton arrived to a courthouse 10 minutes late, parking her black Cadillac Escalade nearby. She was sentenced to 45 days in jail by an infuriated judge. The judge also warned Hilton that her sentence would extend to 90 days should she fail to turn herself into the prison on time. Hilton’s lawyers managed to cut the punishment to 23 days on the basis of a Californian law that permits the reduction of a prison term in case a prisoner “who is deemed harmless to society” displays good behavior. Besides, Hilton will be housed in a special part of the jail away from the prying eyes of other prisoners.

A three-week stint behind bars will not only give a boost to Hilton’s publicity, it will surely make her wealthier as well, according to reports in U.S. media. Tabloids are reportedly ready to offer millions of dollars to the heiress of the Hilton hotel empire for printing her first post-jail interview. Besides, a “Hollywood studio” has already begun developing a fiction movie about the “hard days spent by Paris Hilton behind bars.”

A "scared" Nicole Richie has been praying not to land in jail like her best buddy Paris Hilton, the 25-year-old star told David Letterman during a taping for his talk show on Wednesday.

"I'm just keeping my fingers crossed, and, you know, of course, I'm scared also, but, you know, I'm willing to face whatever consequences come my way, and I take responsibility for what I've done," she said on CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman."

The star of "The Simple Life" was charged with DUI in February but pleaded not guilty. Police say she was under the influence of booze and an unspecified drug when they stopped her Dec. 11.

Richie already had a 2003 misdemeanor DUI conviction. The California vehicle code says if convicted of DUI twice within 10 years, a person can be sentenced to between 90 days and a year in jail.

According to Richie, she'll probably learn her fate at "the end of this month."

When asked if prison was a likelihood, Richie told Letterman, "Um, yeah."

Richie has a philosophy for facing up to her missteps.

"I really try and take everything that I go through as a life lesson," she said, "and I try not to make the same mistake twice."

Richie, the daughter of pop singer Lionel Richie, said she had not spoken to the heiress since she began her jail term Sunday, but did talk to Hilton in the days leading up to her sentence.

Latest: Paris Hilton is struggling after a little over two days in jail, sobbing to family members over the phone and complaining she isn't sleeping or eating.

The heiress has served just over 48 hours of her 23 day sentence for violating her parole following a 2006 drink-driving arrest.

But, according to Tmz.com, the 26-year-old is close to crumbling. Sources tell the site she has no appetite and is struggling to sleep in her noisy and "freezing cell", with just three small blankets and no pillow.

Hilton's fellow inmates have extended her a warm welcome according to the sources, who claim other prisoners chanted "Paris! Paris! Paris!" as she passed them - as well as offering her gifts and words of support.

Paris Hilton, the US socialite and TV star of The Simple Life, is doing well after her first night in a Los Angeles jail, her lawyer has said.

Richard A Hutton added she would now "reflect on her life, to see what she can do to make the world better".

The socialite has been separated from the main prison population in a special unit that contains 12 cells, each holding two people.

The 3.7m by 2.4m cell has two bunks, a table, a sink, a toilet and a small window.

Only two days before Paris Hilton was to report to serve her 23 day sentence for violation of probation, Hilton’s record label dropped her. A Warner Brothers representative said, "We are not expecting any new Paris Hilton material in the foreseeable future."

The 26-year-old is said to be devastated over Warner Brother’s decision to drop her. The hotel heiress’ debut album was released last year and did not see good sales or reviews. After Warner Brothers invested $250,000 in a video for her single, "Stars are Blind" and a promotional tour, they were said to be disappointed because it brought in less than half a million record sales.

Hilton released her second single "Nothing In This World" which barely landed on the charts, reached only to 89 on the Billboard Hot 100 Pop Charts, and only sold 77,000 copies.

"As with global warming and the handgun crisis, future generations will judge us harshly for not preventing Paris Hilton's music career while there was still time," Rob Sheffield, a Rolling Stones critic, said.
